He has specialised in the past in local authority corporate and finance law and now has overall responsibility for the finance function as part of his role as Executive Director for Core Services, where he has responsibility for a range of corporate functions.

Neil has a wealth of experience in all aspects of public sector finance with a recent focus on leading key strategic change and transformation programmes across Barnsley.

Neil is a qualified accountant with a BA (Hons) degree in Economics and Politics. He has a friendly disposition, a good sense of humour and a positive can do attitude.

He is driven and passionate about our services and the team that provides them. He strives for excellence in all aspects of the business to ensure that we continually surpass all of our customer’s expectations.

In his spare time Neil runs a junior football club and for his sins is also a Leeds United season ticket holder.

Ian Rooth

Ian has wide range of experience across almost all financial functions, having worked for almost 30 years in local government. He's been at Barnsley for over 15 years and worked at Sheffield and Leeds City Councils prior to this.

Ian is CIPFA qualified with a BA (Hons) degree in Humanities. He is both positive and customer focused having led the Schools Finance team for a number of years delivering its services in competition. He has a vast knowledge of all aspects of local government finance.

He has a relaxed, easy going approach to leadership but nevertheless is committed to ensuring that the team’s goals are achieved to a high quality and within agreed costs and timescales.

He loves all sports and spends most of his spare time playing golf. He coaches a junior cricket team during the summer and fights an ongoing, if albeit losing, battle to stay fit.

Kerry has worked in both public and private sectors. She has worked in local government for over 17 years in a range of different roles within financial services. Kerry has a range of qualifications including A Levels, AAT and Leadership and Management.

Donna Wildsmith

Donna has worked in a variety of roles in both the public and private sector, predominantly in Finance and Human Resources, but during her earlier career, worked in the leisure industry for a number of years.

Donna enjoys working with the team and her customers to provide an exceptional level of service throughout. Her greatest asset is her enthusiasm; it’s infectious across the team.

In her social time Donna is an avid netballer, playing for 3 different teams across South Yorkshire. She is a self-confessed fitness guru being a qualified personal trainer and having partaken in most sports throughout her life including trampolining, gymnastics, snow-boarding and climbing. You’ll often find Donna up a mountain in the Peak District enjoying time in the country with her labradoodle Harry.

Beth has 18 years of experience in finance, as an AAT trainee, a Core Accountant, and later a Schools Finance Support Officer. She has several qualifications, including NVQ’s in Business and Finance.

Beth’s forte is working with the team to share her wealth of knowledge.

She has a vast understanding and experience of working in all aspects of financial services delivery. Beth is the backbone of the schools support team and relishes in leading her team to provide exceptional levels of service throughout. Her friendly disposition and approachable nature is a credible asset and has fortified long term client relationships.

In Beth’s social time she enjoys keeping fit, reading and spending quality time with family and friends.
